Really? Where does the time go? I am finding it hard to believe that it is Monday morning already. We have had a fabulous weekend so far (our goes from Saturday to Monday) but the last day of the weekend I always start "gearing up" for the next day. Great way to ruin a perfectly good day -- by anticipating the NEXT day when our wonderful little family doesn't get to be together. Okay, I'll stop there. I will enjoy today, even if it is the last day.
We haven't decided on our plans for the day. Since Alaina's birthday is tomorrow but she has school and Jason has to work, we are sort of celebrating today. We'll do gifts, dinner, and cake tomorrow but as for family time, that has to happen today. We told Alaina we could do whatever she chooses. So far, all we have got from her is, "hmmm...we could all go to the store and buy stuff. I need stuff." Okay Alaina, what do you need? "Well let me check my list" (as she runs to the fridge where she has a piece of construction paper with lots and lots of 'writing' on it.) "Let's see, I need sweetener, beans, and salt with pepper pieces in it, and tacos." WHERE DOES SHE GET THIS STUFF? I'll admit to using sweetener but I DO NOT eat beans, I sure don't buy salt with pepper pieces in it, and what, are we going to buy ready-made tacos? She doesn't even like tacos! Quite a list there, babe.
So anyway, I am hoping to sway her to bigger and better plans. Secretly I was hoping that she would say something like go to Lincoln or Omaha (which would definitely mean a Target and Old Navy trip for me). But when pressed, the best I can get from her is go to the library and "check out stuff." I think a little bribing may be in place here :)
Tomorrow should be fun. She gets to choose what we have for dinner and while I expecting her to choose Macaroni and cheese or peanut butter and jelly she chose fondue! Well, to be honest, she said she wanted "you know, that stuff with the meat that put stick in that thing and then you eat" LOL! So fondue it is ~ we are having two of our dorm girls over to join us too, so we will dine on fondue with beef and shrimp (I think I will skip the chicken this time because no one seems to go for it). Then she wants a heart shaped cake. I went shopping on Saturday for all the goodies for her birthday and I tell you, her choosing a heart theme sure is easy this time of year! I got some really cute heart stuff. And the best thing is, I can save it and reuse it for Valentines each year.
I also picked up a few things for Chinese New Year. We don't celebrate it, but when I saw some decorations at Hobby Lobby it made me homesick for Asia. There is this hole in my heart that was created by leaving a part of myself there and any little thing to make me feel home is wonderful. Chinese New year is one of the biggest celebrations for a lot of Asia. The date changes each year and is based on the lunar calendar. This year it is on February 18. In Malaysia it was just crazy ~ the celebration lasts for two weeks and fireworks go off ALL NIGHT LONG for 15 days! The first year we were there I barely slept. They START around midnight and are soooo loud! It didn't help that we had huge hotels on either side of our house AND we were right on the beach so all the tourists would be throwing bottle rockets of the balconies and there were huge parties on the beach. The second year we were there I got smart and bought earplugs. I slept much better! The funny thing is, fireworks are illegal in Malaysia!
Here's a LO I did last year using some of Alaina's artwork from school for Chinese New Year:
Gong Xi Fai Cai which is said to everyone during this time isn't "Happy New Year" as many people believe, but rather, loosely translated, means "Congratulations and be prosperous."
Anyway, it feels good to have a few decorations for it. I picked up a paper lantern (very popular in Asia) and a few other decorations of Chinese dresses that I will save and use on the Christmas tree. The paper lantern is hanging in our living room and every time Caleb sees it he says, "Apple!" It is read and round, but that is where the similarities end! LOL!

Didn't do much scrapping this weekend, but I did get my LO for the Amazing Digi Scrapping Race done. We had to use a specific sketch for this. Here is my take on it:
I used Misty Mareda's CURIOSITY kit and the circle doodled frame is by Ida at CatScrap.
Okay, done rambling for this morning. Can you tell I have not finished my coffee yet. My head does not function fully before drinking coffee in the morning so I try not to do much beforehand. But since today will be pretty full (you know, all that bean buying that Alaina wants to do) I needed to check in here first thing.
Have a great day!
