As I was taking pictures today, I was busy thinking that I was so totally over the rain here. Having a front and back yard lake after ten minutes of rain isn't really something I asked for. The rainy season lasts for EIGHT MONTHS...September through April. And while it is tempting to continue whining about my leaking roof and mold infestation, I realize that I am one of the lucky ones. This is right here in our town. Lives are being lost, homes destroyed. Please, rain, GO AWAY.
I LOVE rainy season here, and relish the rain as it brings respite from the radiating heat of the sun. But, that would be scary... there very often big landslides as well on the road on either side of our city... but lives lost are never to be relished in. That is sobering news.
Our backyard used to have the very same problem. My husband dug a very deep pit, layered it with very large rocks and then put a top over it and dug a channel along the back of our yard... now all the water drains down into the 'septic tank' That way, the excess water goes there and slowly seeps back into the ground. I'm so happy he did, it has worked so well!
I hope your rain subsides, and mine increases :)

PS. We do have to keep an eye on the receding water to make sure that it goes down quick enough that mosquitoes don't make their breeding ground down there. Also have to make sure rats and other yuckies don't have access :)

Yeah, I'm sure 8 months would get to me too! too bad your house isn't in the same spot as the school, huh? What gets me during rainy season is the MUD. oh muddy mud, mud. footprints through the house, flip-flops squelched then suctioned off when you walk, and mud in the car... yep, the mud gets me down. I am from OR where incessant rain is pretty normal so that part is okay, but the MUD. ugh.
