I remember that when we first moved in India back in 2000, we were surprised to see all the families riding on motorbikes. It wasn't uncommon to see two, three, four, or even five people on ONE bike. That's just how it is there. People don't own cars and so if you need to get somewhere and you are fortunate enough to own a bike, you take your bike. I remember thinking that those people were totally crazy.
It doesn't surprise us anymore. Motorbikes are EVERYWHERE (in India and here in Indonesia). I remember when I checked out of the hospital after having Alaina and I got into a taxi and the lady from the room next to me got onto a motorbike with her newborn! Often we see families riding around, kids sleeping, and even mothers nursing on a motorbike! Yea, it doesn't surprise us anymore and I have to admit I think we have become a little bit Asian. You judge for yourself.
And yes, we HAVE a car. But Jason prefers to buy groceries this way. At least traffic is so congested that they can't actually go very fast on the bike.
It DOES look funnier when white folks do it, though.

What a sight you have there!! And I agree, getting around the congested Indo traffic by motorbike is the way to go! I grew up riding motorcycle and loved it!

Wow, sangat Indonesian!! Ha ha ha! I REALLY have to show my husband this photo!!! He was so in awe (took photos and all) when he saw a goat in between two (or was it three?) people on a motorcycle when I took him there three years ago. He's still traumatized by my dad's driving. He said next time we're meeting in Bali :P
Hello, btw. I got here through Facebook, from Kimberly's KongLish status, I comment before you. It's a small world... I'm a hybrid CT at SSD but love doing digi's too when I'm feeling like it. I'm from Indonesia, grew up there for 14 yrs. I'm in the UK now and still moving. Maybe one day we'll live a few years in Asia... we'll see on the job of course. I wouldn't mind working for an International school somewhere. I am an Instructional Technologist... or at least a month ago. Now I am a SAHM who's trying hard to be a WAHM :P
